Farmdrop is an delivery service which brings farm to your doorstep! It allows the customers directly order the goods they need from the makers using an app. Recently, they raised $7 million in order to improve the service they are offering right now. This service is bridging the gap between the farmers and the consumers. It helps the makers and consumers to connect so that the consumers can get a reasonable price as well as the makers. With the money they raised recently, they are going to expand their service to other regions. Farmdrop launched in 2014 is currently operating only in London but they will start to deliver packages in Bristol from September this year. Wondering how the app works? Users can choose their desired product from the catalog then the app notifies the producers about the customer needs and the app delivers the products directly from makers to customers.
Ben Pugh, founder of Farmdrop said,
“It’s a super low-cost model because we’ve taken all the stuff out of the middle and replaced it with a mobile app and a zero waste, zero storage model. A lot of the technology we have been building is around making sure the market place functions perfectly as it scales, that’s very complicated. There’s an actual chicken which is born before it can lay eggs or become a roast chicken on somebody’s table.”
The investment was made by Atomico and they said that they are very proud to successfully Invest in Farmdrop. Atomico believes that Farmdrop is doing a tremendous job by meeting the needs of local food and simplifying the food chain.
